The positive effects of
the World Cup continue to be felt in the fixed odds sports betting
market. According to AAMS data released by Agicos, revenues from sports
betting increased in July by 52,41% over the same period last year.
Additionally, the online betting turnover was up 34,1%. To be clear,
sports betting revenue increased to 214.218.900,25 from 140.557.535 in
the same period last year. For the first seven months of 2010, betting
revenue rose 15,3% from a year earlier.
BETTING:
DOUBLE-DIGIT GROWTH IN ALL THE REGIONS, WITH THE EXCLUSION OF CALABRIA
Betting revenue in the region of Campania hit record highs this July,
exceeding 28.7 million. Lombardy and Latium took the second position
with betting turnover of 22.7 million and 19.3 million respectively.
Some regions achieved very strong growth rates, especially Trentino Alto
Adige jumping 107,2% to more than 1.9 million as well as Lombardy up
104,4%. Basically all the regions reported a sharp increase (over 30%),
with the exclusion of Calabria decreasing by almost two percentage
points (3.3 million)

BETTING: REVENUES FROM LIVE BETTING EXCEEDED 17.4 MILLION IN JULY
The live betting offer available to users in July was on 67 sporting
events: out of 10 events more than a year ago. Overall revenue from live
betting was 17.403.915,97, namely a 13 million increase in turnover
compared to the same period last year. Land-based betting accounted for
72,06% of the total. In July, an estimated 289.678 game accounts were
operated for a total of 4,704.105 tickets.
BETTING: REVENUES FROM ONLINE BETTING ROSE 34%
Revenues from online betting rose 34,1% in July to 58.6 million from
43.7 million a year ago. Online betting accounted for 27,3% of total
betting turnover in July 2010.
BETTING: THE PAYOUT OFFERED TO BETTORS WAS
OF 70% IN JULY, WITH THE AVERAGE STAKE BEING 13
In July, the number of tickets issued by
the National tote was equal to 15,636.898 with the average stake being
13. Betting systems accounted for 2,5% of the total. The average amount
of winning tickets was of approximately 131,60. The payout offered to
bettors was of 70%, essentially the
same level as last month.
The average single levy rate was of 3,84%. The margin of dealers
amounted to 55.751.129,62. An estimated 87.926.726,25 in wagers was
reported by concession-holders for the provision of sports betting
services (pre-Bersani network), whilst public games concession-holders
(post-Bersani network) had turnover of 126.292.174,00.
BETTING: THE WORLD CUP FINAL BETWEEN
HOLLAND AND SPAIN GENERATED MORE THAN 14 MILLION IN BETTING REVENUE
As regards the betting line-up, the
AAMS increased in July the betting offer available to bettors with a
wide range of competitive sporting events (totalling 3,544), including
the so-called minor sports. Bets were placed on 2,853 events. The most
staked events were the World Cup matches.
A total of 14.3 million was
wagered on
the final
between Holland and
Spain, followed by Germany-Spain (10.8 million) and the Antepost
betting on World Cup winner (9.6 million).
