(AGICOSINTERNATIONAL) - 03 September 2010 - ONLINE POKER: IN JUST TWO YEARS, ONLINE POKER GENERATED MORE THAN €4.6 BILLION IN TURNOVER

Gioco Digitale launched its real-money platform on September 2nd 2008, immediately followed by Microgame. Leonardo Service Provider came online offering real money poker play in Italy in October. In November both Lottomatica and Bwin launched. Snai, Sisal, Cogetech and Eurobet (all using the Playtech platform) entered the market in December. The two biggest online gaming operators, Pokerstars and PartyPoker, joined the fray in 2009. The former began offering real-money online poker to Italian customers in February, the latter in May. Intralot and BetClic entered the growing Italian poker market in late 2009. In just two years, online poker generated more than €4.6 billion in turnover making it the most popular form of gambling in Italy. The game was a boon to State coffers too. Online poker contributed €139 million in tax revenue to the Italian state. With at least 80% of the pot being paid out as winnings, internet poker is one of the most profitable games for users.
